The best Traxxas 1/10 RTR Short-Course Trucks
The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL is one of the best overall RC vehicles. The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL comes with Traxxas Stability Management or TSM for short. It is durable, packed full of power, can reach high speeds, and much more. The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL is one of the best RC RTR’s out on the market.
Out of the box the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL comes with the Velineon Brushless System. This brushless system comes with a 3500 KV brushless motor. The Velineon Brushless System also comes with the VXL-3s electronic speed control, you may also here an electronic speed control called as an ESC. The VXL-3s ESC can run up to and including a 3s lipo battery which gives up 12.4v of power when charged. This brushless system brings a ton of power. When gear right I have been able to reach speeds up to 60 mph. This whole system is water proof. The Velineon Brushless System provides more power than needed for this truck.
The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL come with a 3500 KV DC brushless motor. This motor on a 3s lipo can get this truck to speeds of 60 mph. It can also get this truck to do wheelies and if you’re going off a jump you may be able to do a front or back flip. The Velineon 3500kv brushless motor gives the truck tons of power.
The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL comes with a VXL-3s Velineon ECS. With this ESC you can run up to a 3s lipo battery. This ESC has three mods on it. Training mod; which gives the motor 50% of forward power, 50% of rev. power, and 100% braking power. This mod is great for beginners. The next mod is sport mod. With this mod you get 100% of forward, rev. and braking power. This mod is great for ever drivers of all styles. Finely, the last mod is racing mod. In this mod you get 100% forward and braking power, but you get 0% rev. power. A YouTube channel called Traxxas Support has done a great video on this.
Like stated before the Traxxas Velineon ESC can run on lipo batteries. The ESC has low-voltage detection on it. This will prevent the lipo battery from over discharging. To turn on the low-voltage all you must do is hold down the easy set button for ten seconds than the LED will turn green. Traxxas has done a video to help ad you in this possess if needed.
The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL comes with a Traxxas servo. This is Traxxas part number 2075 . This servo has 125 oz-in torque.
The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL comes with Traxxas TQI 2.4 Ghz radio system. The TQI radio system comes with Traxxas Stability Management also called TSM for short (read more about TSM below). The receiver is in a waterproof box allowing no water to enter making this vehicle able to go through water without breaking or ruining any of the electronics. You maybe asking yourself what does the receiver do? Well, the receiver is connected to the ESC and the servo. When the receiver receives information from the controller, it tells the rested of the electronics what to do. In other words, the receiver is like the brain of the Slash 4×4 VXL.
Like stated before, the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL comes with the Traxxas TQI radio system. The controller sends info. to the receiver on what the driver wants the car to do. On the TQI 2.4 GHz controller that comes stock with every Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL, you have two buttons and two dials. The two buttons are the menu and set. With these to buttons you can program the controller and if needed, the receiver. The two dials can adjust the steering trim so the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL will drive straight. With the offer dial, which is called the multi-function knob, you can adjust how much the TSM reacts to different thing. To recap, the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL comes with the 2.4GHz TQI 2-channel controller.
Traxxas stability management, more commonly called TSM is one of the best features on the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL. TSM is a gyro which keeps to car from spinning out and much more. TSM will always keep the front of the car facing forward. This is extremely helpful when driving at high speeds. That’s not all that TSM does. When going off jumps it keeps the car as flat as it can. Traxxas has a great video on TSM to help explain it even more than it already has. TSM is one the best things on this truck, and it is a useful tool.
With the amount of power that the truck get it must be able to take a hit without breaking. This truck can do just that. A crash test done by Rc Studios over on Youtube shows how this car acts when it gets into a front-end crash. In the video you can see the front-end start to bend under the forces of the impacted. With it doing this, the amount of damaged done goes down. But if you are driving like a bat-out-of-hell and you hit something, something on this truck is bound to broke. After a few months of driving I was able to find the on point of the vehicle that brakes most often, the wheel yokes. The Wheel Yokes brake most often when put under extreme amounts of stress and power. This part does not cost much to replace or takes that long to replace. Rather than that one part the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL is extremely durable and can take a hit without breaking.
It is no shock that if a car can handle many surfaces is why we get them. The car needs to be able to get some traction on many surfaces. A car must be able to handle it weight at any speed or on any terrain. The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL can do just that.
I have driven the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL on every surface from hot loose sand to ice covered roads. The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL can handle its weight and go on every type of terrain. I will tell you now that the stock tires on the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL are nowhere close to being good. I had the stock tires on my Slash 4×4 VXL for just under two months before replacing them with a pair of Pro-Lines BadLands . The Badlands on my Slash 4×4 VXL are amazing and I would not replace them with any other type of tire.
I live in northern Utah, here we have large amount of snow for 5 mouths of the year. So, when I am buying a car that is my biggest concerns. The Traxxas Slash 4×4 does great in the snow with Badlands on. With four-wheel drive, the Slash can pull itself out of the deep snow and onto somewhere where it is able to more traction. Now with colder weather comes ice. With ice you can get the back end to kick out and do cool drifts. If you just want to go straight on the ice it can also do that just perfectly. The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL is great in the snow.
To begin with, the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL does not do that well in sand. The tires have a hard time getting and keeping traction. With four-wheel drive you will have all four wheels moving but you will get little ground. This is fixed easily with a set of sling shot tires by Pro-Line Racing . On the hand, once you get up to speed, you can get the Slash “floating” on the sand. You will be able to drive fast and be able to kick out the back get if you want. To recap, the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL can handle sand but it is not best at it.
Loose Gravel and Dirt
Loose gravel and dirt, perhaps the best places to drive the Slash 4×4 VXL if you’re looking for a good time. Here you can basically do anything with the truck. High speed runs, wheelies, donuts, and many more things you can do with the Slash on this type of terrain. With the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL you get a few inches of ground-clearance allowing you to get up and over stuff that is in your way. The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL is great on off-road terrain.
On-road is the best places to drive the Slash 4×4 VXL. The only place where the Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL’s stock tire s were able to get good traction was on-road. With the Vilineon 3500kv brushless motor you can reach speeds up to 60 mph. The Slash 4×4 VXL is great on-road.
Is that a plane, a bird? No, it is a Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL at a skate park. With the Slash weighting just over few pounds you can get it to go high into the air. Only here have I been able to get the Slash 4×4 VXL to do a back-flip. At the Skate park I have gotten the Slash to reach up to 50 feet in the air. The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL is the king of the skate park.
If you are questioning getting a Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL, just do it. The Traxxas Slash 4×4 VXL is my favorite RC car I have ever driven. It is light weigh, quick, and agile. It can go on ever terrain and master it. I love my Slash 4×4 VXL. If you ask anyone else who owns one, they will tell you the same thing. The Traxxas Slash 4×4 is the best car to own. If you get one, you will love as much as I do.
